The Saint Jo Lady Panthers grabbed control of the District 21-A Division II race Tuesday, knocking off the Slidell Lady Greyhounds.
Saint Jo ended the game on a 12-4 run to pull off a 49-42 victory.
“We had our chances in the game,” said Slidell coach Cody Vanover. “We led 38-37 with about five minutes to play. We just missed too many free throws and too many shots under the goal.”
The loss dropped Slidell (13-7) to 7-2 in the league. Saint Jo (16-5) moved to 8-1 and into sole possession of first place.
After trailing 26-20 at halftime, Slidell went on a 13-7 run in the third quarter to tie the game at 33. Saint Jo outscored Slidell 17-9 in the final frame to get the win.
“We can learn a lot from this game – it just doesn’t leave a very good taste in your mouth to learn it this way,” Vanover said.
