Rodeo: Wilson wrestles title

Decatur’s Chase Wilson won the steer wrestling at the North Texas High School Rodeo Association event over the weekend.

Wilson made a run of 4.88 seconds to record the victory. Northwest’s Grady Payne took second in 5.103 seconds.

Decatur cowgirl Carolyn Spear finished second in steer undecorating with a time of 1.385.

Alvord’s Mikayla Cox was fifth in the event in 1.87. Cox finished third in barrels in 16.257 and fourth in goat tying in 10.497. She garnered the rookie cowgirl award with her 148 points.

Alvord’s Tanner Baker won the ribbon roping in 5.587 seconds. Paradise’s Ty Meals finished fifth in the event in 10.467.

Decatur’s Jake Cobb as the header with Lawson Harris as the heeler teamed up for fourth in team roping in 9.669. The two switched and finished eighth in 14.505. Seth Cone and Derek Winter of Winter Academy were fifth in 10.91. Meals and Chase Gasperson finished sixth in 11.364.

In chute dogging, Payne took third in 3.485. Decatur’s Jacob McLeod was fourth in 3.529 and Nick Martinez ninth in 4.392.

Northwest’s Alexis Barfield garnered third in poles in 21.388.
