Marley McCune started going to the course with her dad, Rodney, when she was a little girl – but she didn’t take to it immediately.
“My dad started taking me to the course when I was 4. I didn’t like it at first,” she admitted. “But I found out it was the way we were going to bond.”
Years and many trips out to the course later, McCune is now a two-time District 9-2A champion. Boyd’s McCune claimed her second league crown in a row this past week.
“It means a lot after all the time put in for practice,” McCune said.
She fired a 94 at Cross Timbers in Azle and closed with a 97 at Canyon West in Weatherford.
“I played consistent enough to win,” McCune said. “I was disappointed in the little mistakes. My putting was good but not my chipping.”
McCune hopes to give herself a shot at state at next week’s regional tournament.
“My goal is to be in the 80s both days,” she said.
