The Alvord Lady Bulldogs put a stifling defense on display for three quarters Friday.
The Lady Bulldogs held the Ponder Lady Lions to just 14 points through three frames en route to a 50-25 victory at Alvord High School gym.
The win allowed the Lady Bulldogs (14-8) to keep pace in a tight District 9-2A playoff race at 4-2. At the end of the first half of league play, Alvord is in third place behind Brock (6-0) and Paradise (5-1).
Marissa Schedcik led a trio of Lady Bulldogs in double figures with 17 points. Lauren Hart added 16, and Katie Claborn 10.
Alvord jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the first quarter and extended the lead to 25-9 at halftime.
The Lady Bulldogs outscored Ponder 14-5 in the third quarter.
Alvord stepped out of district play Monday and knocked off Lake Country Christian School 59-54. Claborn led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points. Hart chipped in 13, and Schedcik 12.
