In his only season at Northwest, Taylor Johnson averaged 15.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game and hit 50 3-pointers, helping the Texans to the playoffs.
Johnson will now head to Dartmouth to continue his basketball career. The Wise County Newcomer of the Year was one of several Northwest athletes that confirmed their college pledges during the district’s May signing ceremony.
Johnson is one of three Texan basketball players to get a chance to continue their careers. Josh Tatum will play at Weatherford College, and David Ogunwolu at Huston-Tillotson University in Austin.
State-qualifying hurdler Kerry Gleason is heading to Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches. Gleason finished fourth in the 5A 110 hurdles at state, and sixth in the 300 hurdles.
Three other track athletes inked letters. Brittanie Anderson signed with Texas Wesleyan, Deserae Kirkland with Southeastern Oklahoma State University, and Clarence Cordova with Southwestern Christian University.
Shelby Stinnett will play volleyball at Texas Wesleyan University.
Wrestler Eric Pacheco is headed to Lyon College.
Grayson County Community College picked up Victor DeJesus for its baseball program.
