Gleason sweeps hurdles, leads Texans to second at area

Northwest’s Kerry Gleason captured a pair of gold medals and entries into three regional events Friday at the Class 5A 3/4 area meet in Coppell.

Gleason won the 110 and 300 hurdles and helped the Texans’ 4×400 to a fourth-place finish. Now he moves on with several other Northwest athletes to compete in the 5A Region I meet at Texas Tech University in Lubbock Friday and Saturday.

Gleason ran a 14.67 in the 110s and turned in a 38.37 to win the 300s. He teamed with Clarence Cordova, Ty Thomas and Dylan Maples to run a 3:22.7 in the mile relay.

Behind Gleason’s wins, the Texans compiled 86 points to finish second at the area meet to Arlington Martin, which finished with 100.

Chase Morrison joined Gleason in capturing gold, winning the 200 in 22.03.

Morrison was also on the 4×100 and 4×200 that garnered regional spots. The Texans’ team of Saveion James, Morrison, Reggie McDaniel and Jordan Muldrow finished second in 41.54. James, Emanuel Moore, Muldrow and Morrison took fourth in the 4×200 in 1:28.09.

Zach Kirkland ran a 4:14.32 to finish second in the 1,600 to Keller’s Austen Dalquist.

Duke Kacinski made a toss of 181-10 to take second in the discus. He was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 49-2.5.

Desiree Freier brought home the Lady Texans’ lone gold medal at the area meet with her record-setting vault of 14-6 that sends her to regionals in pole vault for a fourth time.

Baylee Nelson garnered a silver medal in the 800, running 2:18.28. She was fourth in the 400 in 58.87.

Nelson joined Janae Tatum, Micah Solomon and Hailey Kreig on the 4×400 squad that finished fourth in 3:57.61.

Kreig advanced in the high jump finishing fourth and clearing 5-4.

DeKiyala Jones ran 15.64 in the 100 hurdles to take fourth. Cassidy Adams was fourth in the 3200 in 11:25.98.

The Northwest girls finished sixth at the meet with 48 points.
