Girls Basketball: Lady Panthers roar to win

The Paradise Lady Panthers held Ponder to a single free throw in the first quarter on their way to a romp Tuesday.

Makenna Burt poured in 22 points, and Makala Neighbors added 10 in the 56-30 victory.

The Lady Panthers (21-5) moved to 7-2 in District 9-2A and controlled second place in the league heading into Friday’s showdown with the Alvord Lady Bulldogs. Paradise could wrap up the second playoff seed with a victory.

Defensively, Paradise held Ponder, who is last in the league, to eight field goals. Ponder failed to make a basket in the first and fourth quarters. Ten of the Lady Lions’ 30 points came from the free-throw line.

Paradise built a 13-1 lead in the first quarter and held a 22-12 at halftime. Paradise led 36-25 going into the final frame after getting 10 points from Burt in the third.

ALVORD 49, MILLSAP 41

The Alvord Lady Bulldogs needed a strong fourth quarter to finally put away from the stubborn Millsap Lady Bulldogs.

Alvord outscored Millsap 18-13 in the final frame to pull off the 49-41 victory.

Alvord (17-9) improved to 7-3 in District 9-2A and remains in third place.

Marissa Schedcik led a trio of Alvord players in double figures with 15 points. Lauren Hart and Cierra Rangel added 11 each.

Alvord and Millsap were tied at 21 at halftime. Alvord edged ahead outscoring Millsap 10-7 in the third before the closing push.
