The Decatur Lady Eagles never found an answer for Gainesville’s Ariannah Kemp or the Lady Leopards’ defense Tuesday, dropping out of the three-way tie atop of District 9-3A.
Kemp poured in 17 points in the Lady Leopards’ 47-34 victory at Gainesville High School gym.
The loss dropped Decatur (18-5) to 3-2 in the league. They trail Krum and Gainesville, who are both 4-1.
Decatur took on Krum Friday at home.
The Lady Eagles struggled to find offense against the Lady Leopards’ smothering defense. Decatur managed only 11 first-half points, trailing 23-11 at the break.
“We just couldn’t get anything going offensively,” said Decatur coach Billy Garner.
Decatur cut Gainesville’s lead to nine, 36-27, entering the fourth quarter, but they couldn’t get any closer down the stretch.
Murphy Graham and Katie Isham finished with 11 points each. Gainesville held Decatur’s leading scorer Shelby Drews to three points.
KRUM 44, BRIDGEPORT 24
The Bridgeport Sissies couldn’t derail one of the District 9-3A leaders Tuesday, falling 44-24 to the Krum Lady Bobcats.
The Sissies (12-9) fell to 0-5 in the league.
“Another disappointing loss due to our inability to score,” said Bridgeport coach Dallas Taylor. “Defensively, our kids answered the call and held Krum in check for the night. ”
Krum went on a 13-2 run in the third quarter to break open a 21-16 game. Krum outscored Bridgeport 23-8 in the second half.
Landrie Walsh and Megan Sturdivant led Bridgeport with eight points each.
