Chris Gilmore poured in 31 points Friday, keeping the Chico Dragons unbeaten in District 11-A.
Behind the big game from Gilmore, the Dragons (7-11, 2-0) knocked off Santo 67-59.
“This was a big win for us,” said Chico coach Chad Woodard.
Gilmore, who made six steals and handed out four assists, was joined by two other Dragons in double figures. Marshall Anderle finished with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. Corbin Blackwood put in 12 points with 13 rebounds.
“Gilmore shot the ball extremely well all night, and Marshall and Corbin grabbed some huge rebounds for us,” Woodard said. “This was a total team effort.”
Chico battled back from a first-quarter deficit, doubling up Santo 24-12 in the second quarter to take a 37-28 halftime lead. The Dragons held on in the second half.
“We changed some things up on defense and did a great job executing it,” Woodard said.
