Freier flies to victory at home

Defending Class 5A state champion Desiree Freier put on a show for the hometown fans Saturday at the Texan Invitational.

Freier flew to a victory in the pole vault, clearing 13 feet and seven inches. She won the event by nearly five feet.

Freier’s victory was one of eight for the Northwest Lady Texans at their home meet. The Lady Texans won the team title with 182 points.

Kellee McCann won the 1600, running 5:21.19. Cassidy Adams captured the 3200 in 11:44.14.

Paighton Kelly won the 300 hurdles and took second in the 100 hurdles.

Hailey Krieg captured the high jump, clearing 5-4. Breanna Hardin made a toss of 98-6 to win the discus.

The Lady Texans won the 4×400 and 4×800 relays.

On the boys side, the Texans tallied 171 points.

Kerry Gleason swept the hurdles. He won the 110s in 14.69, and the 300s in 39.53.

Duke Kicinski won the shot put and discus. He landed a throw of 47-10.5 to win the shot and 154-4 to take the discus.

Chase Morrison took gold in the long jump with an effort of 21-0.5. Emanuel Moore bounded 40-7.75 to take the triple jump.

The Northwest teams will return to the track Thursday at the Richland Relays at Birdville ISD Stadium.
