Paradise senior Kelton Dethloff entered the Texas High School Powerlifting Association championships ranked seventh in his 148-pound class.
He moved up two spots and walked away with a medal at the Division 3 meet, lifting a total of 1,260 pounds.
“It was a great way to end an extremely dedicated four years,” said Paradise coach Jonathan Ryle.
Dethloff opened the meet by tallying 500 pounds on squat. He then recorded a bench press of 280 pounds. He closed with a deadlift of 480 pounds.
Teammate Taylor Edwards finished 13th in the 198-pound class with a total of 1,300 pounds. He had a squat of 480, bench press of 345 and deadlift of 475.
“He has had a tremendous four years in powerlifting and went out giving everything he had,” Ryle said.
Northwest’s Joe Gonzales took eighth in the Division I 275-pound class. Gonzales tallied 1,625 pounds. He finished with a squat of 705, bench press of 370 and deadlift of 550.
