Decatur will name its new athletic director and head football coach Thursday.

The Decatur school board will meet at 6 p.m. to name the new coach.

Superintendent Rod Townsend and a committee with three board members were to meet with the two finalists – a 5A head football coach and a Class A head coach – Tuesday and Wednesday.

The new coach will replace Kyle Story, who left in February to become the first head coach at Frisco Independence.

Story had been the head coach and athletic director in Decatur since July 1999.

Townsend said the new coach will get the opportunity to bring in new staff members after evaluating the current coaches.

The new coach will be bringing in coordinators. Decatur’s offensive coordinator Jayson Lavender had previously resigned. Tuesday in a text message, defensive coordinator Nick Stokes said he told players he was also headed to Frisco with Story.
