Chico claims 11-A crown

Taking two of the three relays, the Chico Lady Dragons captured the District 11-A championship Thursday in Santo.

The Lady Dragons won the 4×200 and 4×400 for two of three gold medals on the way to the league title.

Chico finished with 186 points, beating second-place Poolville by 46 points.

The Lady Dragons will send athletes to the Class A Division I 11/12 Area meet Tuesday in Hico. The top four in each event move on to area.

The quartet of Whitney Renfro, Alli York, Leah Davidson and Corey Tate put the finishing touches on the crown, winning the 4×400 in 4:35.98.

Tate, York, Davidson and Charlye Biggerstaff won the 4×200 in 1:56.02.

Tate, Britton Petty, Davidson and Biggerstaff finished second in the 4×100 in 53.82.

Along with the two medals from the relays, Tate won the pole vault, clearing seven feet. Tate also earned a bronze medal, finishing third in the long jump with an effort of 15-4.5.

Biggerstaff took second in the long jump, going 15-8.25, and third in the triple jump with an effort of 32-7.5.

Stacey Brown finished second in the 3200 in 15:49.5. She was third in the 1600 in 7:12.57.

Renfro advanced in both hurdles. She finished second in the 300 hurdles in 54.44 and third in the 100 hurdles in 19.22.

Petty garnered a silver medal in the 200, running 29.5. She also took second in the pole vault, clearing seven feet. Raven Leal was third in the event with a try of six feet.

Jessica Redwine earned bronze medals in both throwing events. She threw 28-1 in the shot put and 70-2 in the discus.

Breann Hall cleared 4-6 to take third in the high jump.

DRAGONS FINISH SECOND

Marshall Anderle won a pair of gold medals and two silvers Thursday, helping the Chico Dragons to a runner-up finish at the District 11-A meet in Santo.

Santo captured the district title with 171 points. Chico was second with 158.

The Dragons will send athletes to area in 13 events.

Anderle won the 800 in 2:15.14, and the triple jump with an effort of 43-5. He took second in the long jump, going 20-6.25.

He ran the anchor leg on the 4×400 with Miguel Iniquez, Kalen Johnson and Corbin Blackwood. They finished second in 3:46.97.

All three Chico relays advanced. The 4×200 with Jaston McBee, Blackwood, Crese Redman and Johnson won in 1:36.3. McBee, Blackwood and Redman joined Cameron Starnes on the 4×100 to take third in 45.74.

Jonathan Nabors won the 3200 in 12:30.2.

Darizon Riggs took second in the 100 in 11.38. He was also second in the pole vault, clearing 9-6.

Dragons finished second in the throws. Cameron Starnes took second in the shot put, throwing 36-3.75. JD Parketon threw 103-5 for second in the discus.
