Carter earns first-team 9-3A spot

Brianna Carter led the Decatur Lady Eagles with a .510 average and drove in six runs during 9-3A play to help her team to a playoff berth.

For her efforts, Carter earned a District 9-3A first-team selection.

Carter was one of four Decatur players to earn all-district honors. Three Bridgeport players received selections.

District champion Sanger took three of the league’s superlative awards. Morgan Turkoly was MVP, Kelly Mardones took Pitcher of the Year, and Victoria Eakman the Defensive Player of the Year.

Krum’s Kaely Whatley was named Offensive Player of the Year. Gainesville’s Mary Gerken earned Newcomer of the Year.

Decatur’s Alex Gabriel and Kristina Pishotta made the first team with Carter. Gabriel batted .302 during the league with five RBIs. Pishotta drove in seven runs with a .385 average.

Bridgeport’s Kensley Turner earned a first-team spot after hitting .431 with a homer and 23 RBIs for the season.

Decatur’s Jenny Bradford, Madi Minor and Brittany Roberts joined Bridgeport’s Diana Garcia and Hailey Hollingsworth on the second team. Bradford hit .291 with five RBIs. Minor batted .333 and posted a 4.10 ERA in 19 innings pitched. Roberts scored a team-best 10 runs and hit .137.

Garcia batted .412 for the Sissies and drove in 12 runs and hit a homer. Hollingsworth posted a .338 average with 11 RBIs and went 9-12 with a 2.55 ERA in 123 innings in the circle.

Bridgeport’s Shiloh Weirich received honorable mention.
