Makenna Burt dominated the paint on both ends of the floor over her four seasons as a Paradise Lady Panther.
In her last act in high school, Burt will put her skills on display against some of the top seniors in the state during the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star game.
Burt will play for the Red squad during the A-3A game at 11 a.m. July 11 at Arlington High School.
“I’m excited. It’s an honor to play in this game,” Burt said.
While facing double- and triple-teams every night, the Paradise center averaged a double-double of 14.8 points and 11.3 rebounds on the way to helping the Lady Panthers to their first playoff win in more than a decade. She earned 9-2A Offensive Player of the Year and a TABC Region II selection.
Burt has signed to play at Northern Oklahoma College in Enid.
She anticipates the all-star game will be a good tune-up for college.
“I expect it to be tough. I’ll be playing against some of the top people in the state,” Burt said.
She’s also looking forward to squaring off against a teammate from a select squad, Breeana Raffaele of Santo, who is on the Blue team.
Decatur’s Serena Estrada will play on the Red team in the TGCA volleyball game at 4 p.m. July 10 at Arlington High School.
The Decatur libero made 381 digs during the Lady Eagles’ run to the Class 3A title. She added 41 aces and 48 assists.
