Basketball: Slidell captures tourney title

The Slidell Greyhounds blew out District 21-A mate Midway 63-35 Saturday to win the Perrin Tournament.

Slidell went 3-0 at the tournament, improving to 8-2 on the season.

Tyler Maynard continued his torrid pace to start the season, pouring in 25 points and grabbing nine boards against Midway. Khristian Talamantes added 13 points and Mason Maynard 11. Colton Crane handed out nine assists to go along with five points.

Slidell built a 31-17 halftime lead with a 17-7 run in the second quarter.

The Greyhounds started the tournament with an 80-37 win over Mineral Wells Christian. Slidell poured in 48 points in the first half and led by 27 at halftime. The Greyhounds outscored Mineral Wells Christian 32-16 after the break.

Tyler Maynard scored 22 points with six rebounds, seven assists and seven steals. Shelby Johnson added 14 points and Crane 10. Mason Maynard grabbed 13 rebounds with six points. Levi Perkins had 10 boards with nine points.

Tyler Maynard tossed in 31 points with seven rebounds in a 54-37 win over Strawn. Slidell used a 17-9 second-quarter run to take a 28-18 lead and held on the rest of the way.

Johnson chipped in seven points and Talamantes six. Dustin Davis grabbed 10 rebounds.
