Ryan Villareal and Keegan Branum held Brock to two runs over six innings to give the Alvord Bulldogs the title at the District 9-2A junior varsity tournament April 25.
Villareal tossed five innings and Branum one in the victory.
Alvord went 3-0 in the tournament, beating Boyd and Ponder Thursday.
“I’m proud of the boys for winning,” said Alvord coach Chris Staley. “From where they came from in the beginning to the end of the year, they’ve made great strides. They are pitching better and defensively are doing a much better job.”
Before getting to the championship game, the Bulldogs needed a late rally against Ponder. Down 5-4, Conner Patterson hit a two-out, two-run single to lift Alvord to the win.
“It was a nice hit in a two-out pressure situation,” Staley said.
The Alvord junior varsity is made up of primarily freshmen and sophomores with one junior transfer. The team went 10-4-1 in district play.
