This past Sunday I went to visit a friend who is staying at The Hills Nursing Home. If you have visited there, you know the entryway or foyer is the gathering room for visits.
There were a few residents sitting, sleeping, watching TV or visiting before the supper hour. One gentleman who was quite elderly and appeared to be approaching the end of his life was sitting in a wheelchair, asleep. There was a young nurse looking after him and, as he slept, she held his hand and patted his shoulder in a very tender and comforting way.
I was touched by that moment and thought, “Yes, someone does still care.” I don’t know the name of the resident or the nurse, but I can’t get that image out of my mind.
That you, Gary Hendrix and staff, for not only providing nursing services, but also for caring in a special way not too often seen in this day and time.
