Teacher’s legacy lives on

By Ann Dawson Kaker | Published Saturday, May 31, 2014

I wanted to write on behalf of my Decatur High School class of 1959 to let others who might not know of the passing of our beloved Mildred Vick this past week.

She was with us just a few weeks ago, and we were so blessed to spend the hours we did with her.

She served Decatur ISD and the community for many years before she and the family moved to Eagle Mountain Lake. This past November she reached her 97th year and was still able to live by herself in her home – a testament to her strength and will.

I know our class is only one of many that will miss her deeply. Her daughters, Linda and Jane, and their families are a wonderful legacy to her and Mr. Vick, who was there to welcome her to heaven.

Thank you,
Ann Dawson Kaker
