Endorsements for GOP primary

For the most part, the Democratic Party remains politically dead in Wise County. That’s why the Republican primary on March 4 is an extraordinary election event – one that voters should not miss. Most of those elected in the primary will become winners of the general election in November.

That’s why I wholeheartedly endorse the following candidates:

For county treasurer, the chief custodian of all county funds, including the general fund and special funds, Katherine Canova Hudson is the only choice. Her opponent “wants to start my political career where I grew up” – and that is all well and good, but not with the monies collected and disbursed by the county treasurer!

For Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, there is no question as to who should be the judicial officer and that is Jan Morrow. Jan has done a remarkable job as a conservator of the peace. Her opponent has an outstanding record as a law enforcement officer and with time and experience could be an excellent choice. But why upset the applecart when everything is satisfactory? Vote for Jan.

Both candidates for the district clerk position are highly qualified and experienced. Either one could perform these duties, without question. However, why should Brenda be ousted if she has done exceptionally well? Vote for Brenda Starnes Rowe.

The position of county judge should be looked upon as being the “county mayor” – and the choices are noteworthy. There are two mayors of cities (Bridgeport and Chico) and one former county commissioner. However, Wise County needs a fresh look with a responsible leader, a person who will work hard for your interests, not his own. We need a county judge who knows how to balance budgets and lower your property tax rates.

Now if you’re an old fogie like me, you tend to be wary of any younger people running for office. You think they’re not old enough to have the experience and know-how of an older person. However, that’s not the case here. J.D. Clark has proven himself to be an exceptional leader with outstanding results. He’s a man, not a boy! Enough of the same old tired politics – J.D. Clark is honest, are you? Then vote for J.D. Clark.

For county commissioner, Precinct 4, there are only two choices: David Stewart and Gaylord Kennedy. Both are qualified and dedicated toward doing the job as required by the county.

“Every election is determined by the people who show up.” – Larry J. Sabato, “Pendulum Swing”

“Honor the lives sacrified for your freedoms. Vote.” – Richelle E. Goodrich, “Smile Anyway”

If you don’t vote on March 4, please do not complain about the results.

  1. says:

Sometimes it is the upsetting of the apple cart that brings in fresh and yes more great ideas. Not upsetting the apple cart is the good old boys mentality, and unfortunately, with that type of ideas and support nothing changes. Our county does not grow. We need to search our hearts and vote for the ones who we think will be best for Wise County.
