As the former mayor of Decatur I am always interested in the political process, especially at the local level. I like to learn all I can about the issues, the candidates and what ideas and experience each might bring to every level of local government.

The State of Texas has become a magnet for out-of-state immigrants, both nationwide and international. Texas is an easy place to do business with no income tax and few corporate taxes or regulations to hinder development. But it only takes one trip to the Metroplex to realize we don’t have the roads to handle the increased traffic now, let along five or 10 years from now.

But the really big issue is water. What are we going to do about anticipated continuing drought along with increasing consumption of water? As in the rest of the state, Wise County will experience continued growth in the foreseeable future.

With these and other challenges ahead, our elected political officials must have vision and leadership skills. They must be creative and willing to offer innovative ideas to resolve the problems beginning at a local level.

After reviewing the backgrounds of the candidates for County Judge, only one stands out. J.D. Clark, mayor of Chico, is a young man with proven leadership skills, vision and experience. He has served three terms as mayor of Chico, attended Harvard University Leadership School, and completed his master’s degree. He is a classroom history teacher and serves on the boards of directors for the United Way of Wise County, Domestic Violence Task Force and Chico Economic Development Corp.

J.D.’s many accomplishments as mayor of Chico demonstrate his ability to work with others and get things done. Under his administration the city has seen balanced budgets and clean audits, a 30 percent decrease in administrative spending, lower property tax rates, major street and sanitation improvements and many more initiatives to benefit all Chico citizens. He is prepared to bring his experience and energy to Wise County government.

I heartily endorse J.D. Clark for Wise County Judge and encourage you to support him as well.
