A Wise County constable was involved in a two-vehicle wreck Wednesday near downtown Decatur.
Decatur Police Chief Rex Hoskins said Precinct 2 Constable Larry Short was northbound on South Cowan Street when he ran a stop sign at the intersection with West Main Street just after 4 p.m. Short’s county pickup struck the front driver’s side corner of a westbound passenger car driven by Tristyn Hand, 23, of Chico.
The impact sent Short’s vehicle into an electrical pole, which was pushed several feet at the base, and Hand’s vehicle ended up in a nearby vacant lot on the north side of West Main. Short’s truck also took out a stop sign on the north end of the intersection.
Medics and the fire department responded to the scene, but nobody was taken to the hospital. Short appeared to have a small cut on his head.
Main Street remained closed for about one-and-a-half hours as the scene was cleared and the electric company reset the pole.
No citations were issued in the accident.
