After three hours behind closed doors Monday night, the Bridgeport ISD Board of Trustees voted 5-1 to not extend Superintendent Eddie Bland’s contract for another year.

Board vice president Charles Mauldin led the voting with a motion to not extend Bland’s contract. Board president Jim Bost cast the only dissenting vote.

Bland has been superintendent at Bridgeport ISD since 2006. He has three years left on his current contract, which doesn’t end until 2017. He will be eligible for retirement in 2016, although he has stated in the past that he would not retire at that time.

Contacted Tuesday for an interview, Bland focused on the remainder of his contract.

“I’ve still got three years left,” he said. “I’ve got a job to do, and I’m going to do it.”
