Runaway Bay City Council to consider board appointments

By Messenger Staff | Published Wednesday, May 14, 2014

Although there wasn’t a city council election, there may be a change in volunteer positions in Runaway Bay.

At its meeting Tuesday, the council will meet in closed session to deliberate, then convene in the open to appoint members to the economic development corp., planning and zoning commission, parks board and cemetery board.

It will handle the municipal court judge position the same way – with a closed session discussion and action in a public forum. Mary Beth Henry currently holds that post.

Officials will issue a certificate of election and administer the oaths of office to Mayor Robert Ryan and council members Neil Peters and Kay Simmons, who were re-elected after drawing no opposition.

The council will also consider:

  • appointing a mayor pro tem;
  • authorizing the Wise County Appraisal District to sell real property previously struck off the tax roll for delinquent taxes;
  • the April 15 meeting minutes, financials, accounts payable; activity reports; journal entries; and code enforcement report.
