Runaway Bay City Council to cancel election

Only the incumbents signed up for the three expiring terms on the Runaway Bay City Council during the filing period that closed recently.

With no contested races, the council will consider at its meeting Tuesday canceling the May 10 election and declaring the unopposed candidates elected.

The mayor and two council at-large seats were up for election. These posts are held by Robert Ryan, Neil Peters and Kay Simmons, respectively.

At the meeting, Mayor Ryan will announce the expiring terms on other boards and commissions.

The council will also consider disposing of surplus property held by the volunteer fire department, approving the police department’s standard operating procedures and routine business.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall, 101 Runaway Bay Dr. It’s open to the public.
