Runaway Bay City Council names Ray to fill vacancy

By Messenger Staff | Published Saturday, July 19, 2014

The Runaway Bay City Council is fully manned again.

At its meeting Tuesday, the council appointed Roland Ray to fill a vacancy created when Kay Simmons resigned.

According to City Secretary Oneta Berghoefer, Simmons has moved outside the city limits and is no longer eligible to hold office.

Simmons was re-elected to the at-large post on the council in May. The term expires in 2016.

Also during the meeting, the council rejected a bid received for work to repair and stabilize the slope failure in Marina Road.

Elected officials authorized city staff to re-advertise since only one bid was submitted.

In routine business, the council approved the June meeting minutes, financials, accounts payable, activity reports, journal entries and code enforcement report.
