The Bridgeport Police Department is investigating the death of a man found in his vehicle on Owens Street Friday night, but Chief Randy Singleton said it appears to be suicide.

“However, we’re waiting to hear from the medical examiner for a final determination,” he said.

James King, 47, was found just before midnight Friday not breathing and locked in his car, which was parked in the 300 block of Owens Street. Cpl. Richard Taylor said he was discovered by family members who called 911. In the meantime, they also managed to pry the door open. The man was sitting in the driver’s seat.

Wise County medics and the Bridgeport Fire Department were dispatched to the scene, along with the PD, but upon arrival, medics immediately determined King was deceased. He was pronounced dead by Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Craig Johnson.

King’s body was sent to the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
