Man stabbed in altercation

By Kristen Tribe | Published Wednesday, July 30, 2014

A Slidell man was stabbed Friday night at the Wise County Old Settlers Reunion after warning a fellow reveler to stay out of his cooler.

Decatur Police Chief Rex Hoskins said Chris Fletcher was stabbed in the hand and slashed across his stomach and back. Hoskins described the cuts to Fletcher’s torso as “grazing.”

Just before midnight, Fletcher tried to stop a man from taking beer from his cooler.

“This man was blatantly stealing from 6:30 on, whether it was Dr Pepper, beer or whatever, so at 11:45 or so I told him to stop,” Fletcher told the Messenger Monday morning.

Hoskins said some witnesses have said there was a shoving match, but Fletcher said he was hit in the back of the head after turning his back on the man.

“He hit me in the back of the head, knocked me to the ground and had a knife out before I could get up,” Fletcher said.

The suspect fled the scene, but Hoskins said they know who it is. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday afternoon.

“We’re still getting statements from people to get all sides of the story,” he said.

Wise County Medic 1 was called to the scene but did not treat anyone. Fletcher said his sister later took him to Wise Regional Health System in Decatur where he received 13 stitches in his palm.

He said he’s unable to work since the incident.

This whole story just sounds real “Fishy” and if someone is actually stealing/helping themselves to a beverage you call the police at a public event or we trying to use the “Castle Law”?
