Decatur City Council to consider multiple requests

By Messenger Staff | Published Saturday, June 7, 2014

The Decatur City Council will have a variety of requests placed before them when they meet 6 p.m. Monday, June 9.

Most of them deal with zoning, land definitions and variances.

Mark Southard is requesting variances from the city’s sidewalk ordinance for three lots in the King’s Terrace addition – 220 and 216 William Allen Lane and 305 Cyndi Lu Lane.

The city’s Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended denial of all three requests, although the city does offer developers the option of putting in the sidewalks or escrowing funds with the city to build them at a future date.

Jody Adams of Double Creek Capital will request a zoning change from multi-family residential to restricted business zoning on about six acres of property along Preskitt and Old Reunion Road.

The developer plans to put in a retail and medical complex addition. P&Z recommended approval of the request.

Kevin Kajeff, on behalf of Live Oak Holdings, is requesting a special use permit for a nursing/residence home for the aged in a district zoned multi-family. The request covers about three-and-a-half acres at 300 E. Devereaux, formerly referred to as Governor’s Ridge Retirement and Assisted Living Community.

P&Z also recommended approval of that request.

The council will hold a public hearing and consider on first reading a proposal to amend the city’s comprehensive land use plan to create a mixed land use definition in the city’s glossary of terms, to place a mixed land use designation on the city’s land-use map and to designate the properties along Business U.S. 81/287 between Mulberry Street and the north city limits as a mixed land use area.

They will also consider a public auction to sell properties that have been struck off the tax rolls of the city, Decatur ISD, Wise County and the Wise County Water Supply District for delinquent taxes.

Other requests are for street closings for a parade to be held with an East Side Alumni reunion on Saturday, June 21, and for a 5K fun run sponsored by the Decatur Junior Woman’s Club on Sept. 13.

The public meeting is at City Hall, 201 E. Walnut.
