The cause of the fire that gutted a single-wide mobile home west of Paradise Sunday is still under investigation.

But officials are calling it “suspicious.”

Wise County Deputy Fire Marshal J.C. Travis said there was no electricity connected to the home, “so that’s eliminated as a possiblity,” he said.

He did, however, find with his gas detector traces of what appears to be some type of accelerant.

Travis sent those samples to the forensic arson lab in Austin. Results could take up to five weeks.

Paradise, Bridgeport and Cottondale fire departments were dispatched to the structure fire in the 100 block of County Road 3351, just after 10 p.m.

When firefighters first checked on scene, the home was fully engulfed and threatened another home on the property. However, the flames didn’t spread.

There were no injuries.

Sgt. Chad Lanier, Wise County Sheriff’s narcotics investigator, was called to the scene, but found no evidence of drug activity, Travis said.
