A man accused of raping a 15-year-old girl while allegedly threatening her with a knife last year in Bridgeport was captured Tuesday by sheriff’s deputies in Natchitoches Parish, La.
John Wayne “Jay” Larned, 26, was living in a house near the town of Natchitoches. When deputies approached the home, Larned, armed with a loaded handgun, attempted to sneak out the back door. He was quickly caught and arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was also charged with felony possession of a firearm and drug possession.
Last March, Larned was living with his girlfriend’s family in a home near Bridgeport. The victim in the case was the girlfriend’s younger sister.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Larned allegedly pinned the victim down in her own bed and threatened to hurt her with a large knife if she screamed or cried for help. The victim told investigators he assaulted her twice last spring and said if she told anyone “he would ruin her family.”
The investigation began after Larned posted pictures of him and the victim kissing on his Facebook page. The parents then confronted Larned and contacted authorities.
On the day Larned was arrested, he admitted to a Wise County Sheriff’s Office investigator that he did have sex with the girl and knew she was only 15 at the time.
“I am pleased with the arrest and grateful that this suspect will not have the chance to harm another innocent child,” said Natchitoches Sheriff Victor Jones.
Larned remains in Natchitoches jail until he can be transferred to Wise County to face a first-degree felony charge. If found guilty, he faces a sentence of five to 99 years in prison. Larned has a previous felony conviction.
