CHAMBER LUNCH – The Chico Chamber of Commerce will meet noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at the Chico Senior Citizens Center, with lunch served at noon for $7 a plate. Guest speaker will be Laura Spain, regional representative for the Veterans Administration for this area.
SINGING MEN DUE HERE – The Singing Men of North Central Texas will hold a free concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at the First Baptist Church of Decatur, 1200 W. Preskitt Road. The 150-voice chorus, one of the finest in the U.S., is made up of men who hold music-related positions in Texas Baptist churches and institutions. The concert will feature both classic and contemporary gospel music and will include selections by the men’s chorus and the orchestra, as well as a combined choral piece with choirs from area churches. YOUTH RODEO - The Wise County Youth Rodeo, for ages 19 and under, is March 7-8 at the Wise County Fairgrounds. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the rodeo starts at 7:30 p.m. nightly. IMMUNIZATION CLINIC – The Texas Dept. of State Health Services will host an immunization clinic Tuesday, March 11, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 1200 Preskitt Road. A parent must be present, you must bring the child’s shot record and you must be VFC-eligible. Cost is $10 per child or $20 for the whole family.
HOST FAMILIES – Families are needed in Wise County to host a foreign student for a three- or four-week period in summer 2014. There are two programs: Group and Activities in Alvord and the surrounding area and Immersion. In the group program, students participate in organized activities Monday through Friday. In the immersion program, students spent the entire time with the host family. Most students will be from Spain and will be 13 to 18 years old. TECHNO EXPO – The Northwest ISD third annual Techno Expo is 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at Northwest High School. BIG EVENT – Northwest High School will host the third annual Big Event on Saturday, April 5. This is one of the largest community service projects in the area. KINDERGARTEN ROUND-UP – Children who will attend kindergarten this August are asked to register online beginning April 21. To register, kindergarten students must be five by Sept. 1, 2014. Kindergarten Round-Up is April 28-May 2. Parents and students are encouraged to attend this event to meet staff, tour the facility and provide the necessary documents needed to complete the registration process. Please bring the child’s birth certificate, immunization records, proof of residency (housing contract, rental agreement, utility bill etc.), Social Security card and license or other suitable photo ID of the parent/guardian. If parents do not have access to a computer at home, computers will be available at the campus during this time.
