OFFICE CLOSED – The Precinct 4 justice of the peace office in Bridgeport is closed Tuesday through Friday this week for training.

MOM/SON EVENT – Bridgeport Parks and Recreation will host a mom/son ice cream and pool party 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 11, at Bridgeport City Pool. There will be games, ice cream sundaes, swimming and giveaways. Cost is $10 per couple and $5 for each additional son. Tickets are available at City Hall and the pool.

KIDS CAMP – The Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Kids Camp is 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday through Aug. 15 at Bridgeport Elementary. Participants will take field trips to the Fort Worth Zoo, AT&T Stadium, Keller Pointe Water Park, the Fort Worth Children’s Museum and Go Bonkers. Weekly cost is $75 per child. OFFICE CLOSED – Precinct 2 justice of the peace Craig Johnson’s office in Decatur is closed Tuesday through Friday this week for training.

RECEPTION – The public is invited to a reception 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at DATCU in Decatur to honor Terry Everett. Everett has been with the credit union for 30 years. She was the first branch manager of the Decatur location and currently oversees business development.

BENEFIT ACCOUNT – An account has been opened for the family of Stacey Bernal at DATCU in Decatur. Bernal, of Decatur, died June 21 after battling breast cancer.


LIBRARY PROGRAM – The Rhome library will host story time and crafts for children at 2:30 p.m. on Thursdays, July 10-Aug. 7. Daniabelle Hromanik will provide stories in English and Spanish for children up to age 11. Young children must be accompanied by a parent. A hot dog supper is planned for the children and their families 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 7.

DEDICATION POSTPONED – The dedication of a historical marker for the Dallas Pacific and Southeastern Railroad on County Road 3555 that was scheduled for July 13 has been postponed until Sept. 7.

TEACHER WORKSHOP – Texas A&M AgriLife Extension service is hosting a two-day teacher workshop open to Wise County educators (kindergarten through eighth grade) July 23-24. Cost is $50 per teacher, and CPE credit will be issued for each day. Hands-on sessions include water conservation, soil science, life cycles, recycling, wildlife/entomology and others. BIKE RALLY – The 2nd Annual Eighter from Decatur Bicycle Rally is Aug. 2, starting at Decatur Airport. Register early at or by calling 940-626-3006. On-site registration is 7 a.m. the day of the ride, which starts at 8. There will be 8-, 25- and 55-mile rides with free lunch for riders. Cost is $5 for non-riders. TASTE OF WISE – Organizers of the 4th Annual Taste of Wise County are looking for restaurants, caterers and food/drink facilities to participate in the tasting event, which is 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Decatur Civic Center. Admission is $5. There will be live entertainment from local artists Dakota Burns, Brandon Gentry, Cody Robbins and Megan Nichols Adams. TECHNOPALOOZA – Northwest ISD will host Technopalooza, a summer conference that teaches educators how to integrate learning with technology July 30-31 at Byron Nelson High School, 2775 Bobcat Blvd., in Trophy Club. The conference will feature presentations for the first-time educator to the veteran teacher. Keynote speaker is Dr. Sheryl Absire, chief technology officer of Calcasieu Parish Schools, and there will be giveaways, T-shirts, food trucks and the opportunity to pre-register for the 2015 TechnoPalooza Conference featuring keynote speaker Dave Burgess.
