DECATUR

VOLLEYBALL TOURNEY – Fit-N-Wise will host a sand volleyball tournament Saturday, July 19, to celebrate the grand opening of two new sand volleyball courts. The tournament is open to ages 13 and up, and cost is $10 per player. Visit Fit-N-Wise to register or call 940-627-2708 for information.

BASEBALL SIGN-UPS – The Decatur Baseball League will be accepting registrations for the 2014 fall season this weekend in the conference room at City Hall, 201 East Walnut St. Cost is $60 for T-ball and 5/6U and $85 for 8U and up. Registration dates and times are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 19; 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 20; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 26; and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 27. BENEFIT ACCOUNT – An account has been opened for the family of Stacey Bernal at DATCU in Decatur. Bernal, of Decatur, died June 21 after battling breast cancer.

RHOME

READY TO RUMBLE – The Christian Wrestling Federation is coming to Movement Church, 1194 CR 4651, in Rhome 10 a.m. Sunday, July 20. This group of Christian athletes will feature Michael Tarver, former WWE wrestler, and Phil “The Real Deal” Bishop. For information, email Lynda Dahlstrom at ldahlstrom@movementchurch.net.

LIBRARY PROGRAM – The Rhome library will host story time and crafts for children at 2:30 p.m. on Thursdays now through Aug. 7. Daniabelle Hromanik will provide stories in English and Spanish for children up to age 11. Young children must be accompanied by a parent. A hot dog supper is planned for the children and their families 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 7.

WISE COUNTY

TEACHER WORKSHOP – Texas A&M AgriLife Extension service is hosting a two-day teacher workshop open to Wise County educators (kindergarten through eighth grade) July 23-24. Cost is $50 per teacher, and CPE credit will be issued for each day. Hands-on sessions include water conservation, soil science, life cycles, recycling, wildlife/entomology and others. SUPPLY DRIVE – Wise Hope Shelter and Crisis Center is collecting school supplies for the annual school supply drive benefiting children whose lives have been affected by family violence or sexual abuse. Supplies or monetary donations may be dropped off at the outreach office located at 608 N. Business 81/287 in Decatur. For information, call Jael Mares at 940-626-4585.

BIKE RALLY – The 2nd Annual Eighter from Decatur Bicycle Rally is Aug. 2, starting at Decatur Airport. Register early at active.com or by calling 940-626-3006. On-site registration is 7 a.m. the day of the ride, which starts at 8. There will be 8-, 25- and 55-mile rides with a free lunch for riders. Cost is $5 for non-riders. IMMUNIZATION CLINIC – The Texas Department of State Health Services in Gainesville will host an immunization clinic 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at the First Baptist Church of Decatur, 1200 Preskitt Rd. Parents must be present and should bring their child’s shot record. Children must be VFC eligible. Cost is $10 per child or $20 per family. Call 940-665-9315 for more information.

TASTE OF WISE – Organizers of the 4th Annual Taste of Wise County are looking for restaurants, caterers and food/drink facilities to participate in the tasting event, which is 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Decatur Civic Center. Admission is $5. There will be live entertainment from local artists Dakota Burns, Brandon Gentry, Cody Robbins and Megan Nichols Adams. TECHNOPALOOZA – Northwest ISD will host Technopalooza, a summer conference that teaches educators how to integrate learning with technology July 30-31 at Byron Nelson High School, 2775 Bobcat Blvd., in Trophy Club. The conference will feature presentations for the first-time educator to the veteran teacher. Keynote speaker is Dr. Sheryl Absire, chief technology officer of Calcasieu Parish Schools, and there will be giveaways, T-shirts, food trucks and the opportunity to pre-register for the 2015 TechnoPalooza Conference featuring keynote speaker Dave Burgess.
