BRIDGEPORT

GT NOMINATIONS – Bridgeport ISD will accept gifted and talented referral forms for students in kindergarten through 11th grade Jan. 13 to Jan. 31. Forms are available at each campus office and online at c2.bridgeportisd.net/Page/3773. An informational meeting for parents is 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at Bridgeport Elementary School, Room 212. 4-H MEETING – The Bridgeport 4-H Club meets 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the Bridgeport Community Center.

BRIDGEPORT LIBRARY CLOSED – The Bridgeport Public Library is closed through Jan. 19 for renovations. For more information, call 940-683-3450.

CHAMBER BANQUET – The Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce Casino Royale annual banquet is 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Decatur Civic Center. There will be food, awards, casino games, lives and silent auction, live entertainment and a raffle, including the chance to win a trip to Las Vegas or $1,000 cash. Dress is Bridgeport casual. CHICO

CHAMBER LUNCHEON – Chico Chamber of Commerce will hold a luncheon noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the Senior Citizens Building on the Chico Square. Cost is $7 per plate, and Superintendent Mike Jones will be guest speaker. For more information, call Louise Gossett at 940-230-3049.

DECATUR

STORYTIME STARTS – The Decatur Public Library will start its 2014 storytime sessions this week. Preschool Storytime (best for ages 3 to 5) is 10:15 a.m. every Wednesday, and Toddler Time (best for ages 18 months to 3 years) is 11:15 a.m. Wednesdays and 1 p.m. Thursdays. Sign-up is not required. 4-H MEETING – The Decatur 4-H Club meets 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at the Wise County Extension office in Decatur.

CHAMBER LUNCHEON – The Decatur Chamber of Commerce luncheon is 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the Decatur Civic Center, and the 2014 board of directors will be installed. RSVP by Friday, Jan. 24, to the Chamber office at 940-627-3107.

RODEO TICKETS – Decatur Night at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo is Saturday, Feb. 8. Tickets cost $25 and are available at the Decatur Chamber of Commerce. Payment must be by cash or check. For more information, call Misty Hudson at 940-627-3107.

PARADISE

BINGO AND STEAK – The Paradise Buyers Association’s bingo and steak dinner is Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Paradise High School Cafeteria. The meal, which includes steak, baked potato, beans, dinner roll, dessert and tea, will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m., and bingo is 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets for the meal are $12 at the door. All proceeds go to the association, which benefits Paradise youth with projects in the Wise County Youth Fair sale. For more information, call Robin Meadows at 940-393-1903.

PROJECT SHOW – The Paradise Project Show is Saturday, Jan. 11. Food and crafts will be exhibited at the elementary school cafeteria, and the livestock show will be at the project barn. To enter, bring crafts, baked goods and photography to the cafeteria between 8 and 9 a.m. Judging begins at 9:15, and the building will open to the public at 10:15 a.m. All projects must be picked up by 11:30. Weigh-in for the animals is 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. The show begins at 10. For more information, call 940-969-5000.

WISE COUNTY

RELAY KICKOFF – The Relay For Life of Wise County kickoff is come-and-go 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at First Baptist Church of Decatur. Finger foods will be served. Registered teams and anyone interested in learning more about joining the 2014 Relay For Life are encouraged to attend. FOOD SAFETY TRAINING – A food safety training program is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Wise County office. The training includes materials and the state food manager certification examination. To register, call 940-627-3341 by Friday, Jan. 10. Space is limited.

FAMILY HISTORY – The Wise County Genealogical Society will host Jeremy Balkin with Family Tree DNA at its meeting 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at Decatur Church of Christ. Cost is $5 for non-members.

YOUTH FAIR ENTRIES – Entries opened Jan. 6 for the 2014 Wise County Youth Fair, which is March 1-8. 4-H, FFA and FCCLA members have until 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, to enter online at wise.fairmanager.com. Entry fees can be paid online with a credit or debit card or they can be mailed to Wise County Youth Fair, P.O. Box 1062, Decatur, TX 76234. Checks, money orders or cashier’s checks will be accepted. Do not send cash. All payments by mail must be received by the entry deadline (Feb. 1) and should include a printed entry receipt. If you need help entering the Youth Fair, contact your ag teacher, FCCLA sponsor or 4-H leader. You may also call the Wise County Extension office at 940-627-3341 or Youth Fair secretary Liz Hubbard at 940-389-5388.

NORTHWEST ISD

NORTHWEST READS – The Northwest ISD Partners in Education program seeks volunteers for the sixth annual Northwest Reads 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. Participants will choose from a variety of books to read to pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade students at one of the school district’s 17 elementary schools. This event provides community members with an opportunity to inspire young NISD students to become lifelong readers. For more information, call 817-215-0172.

MOBILE APP – Northwest ISD will release the second phase of its mobile app on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The update will include the ability to check your student’s grades, attendance, lunch account balance and more. The NISD Mobile App is available on Google Play and the Apple iTunes store.
