Winnie Charlene Blaylock

Winnie Charlene Blaylock, 72, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, in Bridgeport.

Memorial service is 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

Winnie Charlene Volkman was born Dec. 8, 1941, in Littlefield to Kermit Russell Volkman and Winnie Blanche (West) Volkman. She graduated from Muleshoe High School and married William Lewis Blaylock June 15, 1960, in Muleshoe. They were married for 46 years and had two sons, David Russell Blaylock and William Ottis Blaylock.

Charlene earned her degree in nursing and went on to earn a master’s degree from Texas Wesleyan University and become a Certified Registered Nurse of Anesthesia (CRNA). She came to Bridgeport in 1978. Charlene was a member of American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and Texas Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

After living in Bridgeport, Charlene was host to many of the Bridgeport Bulls football boys, and one was welcomed and decided to become a part of the family, John T. Blaylock. Charlene practiced anesthesia in many locations over the years but loved practicing most of all in the community and in or around Bridgeport among her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 46 years, William Lewis Blaylock; and her sister, Janie Shipp.

She is survived by her sons, Dr. David Russell Blaylock and wife, Brenda, of Decatur and William “Bill” Ottis Blaylock and wife, Leisha, of Chico; blended son John T. Blaylock and wife, Cynthia, of Harlingen; grandchildren Arin Blaylock, Brooklyn Blaylock, Joshua Blaylock and wife, Whitney, Jessi Harbor and husband, Joshua, Jacob Blaylock, John Ryan Blaylock and Zoey Blaylock; great-grandchildren Logan Blaylock and Elijha Blaylock; sister Wanda Pearlene Bray; brother Jerry Don Coulter; and other family members and friends.
