Russell Sterling “Rusty” Walker, 54, died Sunday Feb. 23, 2014, in Arlington.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at Carter Lake Road Church of Christ in Bowie with Michael Whitworth officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at White Family Funeral Home in Bowie.
Rusty was born Oct. 31, 1959, in Bowie to Russell Eugene and Joy L. (Whitaker) Walker. He graduated from Bowie High School in 1978 and attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
He was employed with Classic Chevrolet for five years and retired Feb. 4, 2009. He was diagnosed with cerebellar degeneration, causing him to take a medical leave of absence from work. The last five years he was able to stay home and lived his last three years in Green Oaks Rehabilitation Center in Arlington.
Rusty was a walking almanac on sports. He had a big heart, loved friends and always remembered their special occasions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Joy Walker.
He is survived by his only child, Russell Cheyenne Walker of Arlington; brother Keith Walker and wife, Gretta, of Bowie; sister Kathy Watson and husband, James, of Pottsboro; uncles Eddie Walker and wife, Dianne, of Fort Worth and Ira Whitaker and wife, Wanda, of Sterling, Okla.; aunts Joyce Rash and husband, Richard, of Corsicana, Wanda Wheelis of Alvord and Carla Whitaker of Bowie; and numerous cousins and friends.
