Mona Jean Mitchum

Mona Jean Mitchum, 81, a former daycare owner, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014, in Bridgeport.

Funeral is 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport with the Rev. Larry Potts officiating. Burial will follow at West Bridgeport Cemetery.

Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Ray Johnson, Kabel Conner, Derik Conner, Cody Acuff, Tim Mitchum and Thomas Mitchum. Honorary pallbearers are Bradley Mitchum and Robert Mitchum.

Mona was born March 9, 1933, in Caddo County, Okla., to Virgil and Willie Mae (Pugh) Stone. She married Thomas Mitchum Oct. 29, 1951, in Clovis, N.M., and owned and operated a daycare for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Tommy Ray Mitchum; daughter Shirley Jean Fortenberry; sister Margie Marie Ratliff; and brothers J.C. Stone, Jack Stone, Donald Stone and Jimmy Stone.

She is survived by her sons, Jerry Mitchum and wife, Vickie, of Bridgeport, Jimmy Mitchum and wife, Judy, of Bridgeport and Michael Mitchum and wife, Stacy, of Bridgeport; nine grandchildren; eight great-granchildren; sisters Mary Joe Lasater of Springfield, Mo., and Betty May Sharp of Midland; brother Billy Wayne Stone of Decatur; and numerous other family members and friends.
