Larry Ralph ‘Bear’ Coats | 1954-2014

Larry Ralph “Bear” Coats, 59, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at home in Cedar Park.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at The Journey Bible Fellowship in Leander, with Jeramy Chapman officiating.

Larry was born Nov. 9, 1954, in Decatur, the first son to Verda Pearl and James Ralph Coats.

He attended Decatur High School where he played football, ran track and participated in the speech club. He graduated in 1973.

He married Lisa June Lykes in 1987 in Denton.

Larry enjoyed gardening, sports and spending time with his family. He spent many years in the optical business. He was a member of the Austin Chapter of Texas Association of Sports Officials and Austin Basketball Chapter of the Texas Association of Sports Officials.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Coats.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa Coats; daughters Cara Harper and husband, Christopher Harper, and Abigail Coats; son Jared Coats; mother Verda Coats; sister Carla Finnel; brother Cliff Coats and sister-in-law, Shelly Coats; mother-in-law Sue Lykes and father-in-law June Lykes; sister-in-law Laine Gage and brother-in-law Brian Gage.

Larry requested memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
