Johnny Ray McDowell, 81, a retired truck driver from New Fairview, died Monday, May 26, 2014, in Decatur.
Graveside service is 11 a.m. Thursday, May 29, at New Fairview Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.
Johnny was born Feb. 3, 1933, in Dimmitt to Johnny Bill and Ella Mae (Palmer) McDowell. He married Marthella Manley June 21, 1976, in Decatur. He served his country in the United States Air Force and has been a member of Fairview Baptist Church since 1972.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Marthella McDowell of New Fairview; daughters Cindy Whitaker and husband, Brad, of Fort Worth, Pam Dustman of Athens, and Denise Williams and husband, Scott, of Fort Worth; grandchildren Cheyne George, Madison Taylor, Brittany Dustman and Jesse Williams; six great-grandchildren; sisters Jerry Nolan and husband, Charlie, Florene Sanders and husband, Elden, Mary Kate Lane and husband, Ed, and Cindy Harper and husband, John; brother Richard McDowell and wife, Cindy, of Tulia; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Rodney Williams; and brothers Kenneth and Gene McDowell.
