Joe Bob Norwood, 78, of Bridgeport, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, in Decatur.
Funeral was Aug. 14 at Twin Oaks Assembly of God Church in Bridgeport. Pastors Claude Hendrix and M.F. Hankins officiated, and Dale Norwood, Jerry Michlitsch, Mike Sanderson, Ronald Sanderson, DeWayne Norwood and Jack McAsey served as pallbearers.
There was a graveside service in Riverview Cemetery in Seymour, with burial under the direction of Jones Family Funeral Home.
Joe Bob was born Oct. 10, 1935 in Hefner to Celestie (Deatherage) and James Norwood. He served his country in the Army 49th Armed Division National Guard and spent six months in the National Guard of Texas at Fort Chaffee, Ark.
He married Wanda D. Thorn Aug. 1, 1959 in Seymour. He retired from GTE after 33 years of service. He served as a deacon in three churches and was a member of Twin Oaks Assembly of God Church.
Joe Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years; daughters Charlotte Norwood of Bridgeport and Darlene Hager and husband, Scott, of Paradise; son Larry Norwood and wife, Amy, of Runaway Bay; grandchildren Landry and Ryan Norwood and Brooke, Whitney and Nash Hager; sisters Lois Riggs of Monroe, Okla., Lillie Etta Webb of Bennington, Okla., Neoma Henderson of Burleson and Irene Sanderson of Newark; brothers Billy Norwood of Graham and Carl Norwood of Rule; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Sammie, Roy, Alvin, Elmer and Earl Norwood; and sister Leona Jones.
