Jerry A. Jones, 71, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, in Nacogdoches, surrounded by his loving family.
Memorial service is 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Nazarene Church in Nacogdoches. A local memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at The Fellowship of the Parks in Haslet. He was cremated.
Jerry was born Feb. 19, 1943, in Baytown to Era Allred and Alvin Jones. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and lived in Virginia and Louisiana before landing back in Texas.
He was married to Darlene Jones, the mother of his two daughters, for nearly 40 years, and they lived in Boyd for 30 years. He later moved to Nacogdoches and married Marie Jones. He retired from the IBM corporation after 30 years.
Jerry’s greatest passions in life were spending time with family and friends and publishing his poetry books. Hunting, camping, boating, fishing, building things and teaching his grandchildren were some of his most cherished memories.
He loved spending time with his dogs, Robert and Molly, and he always loved a good debate (especially politics). He was a loving and devoted father and loved the Lord with all his heart.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Maria Jones; daughters Casey Nelon of Dallas and Debra Jones of Haslet; brother Glenn Jones of Nacogdoches; sisters Sue Evans of Nacogdoches, Betty Allen and Margie Phillips of Nacogdoches; grandchildren Cody Nelon of Graham, Hunter Nelon of Weatherford, Coby Jones of Haslet and Amaia James of Haslet; great-grandchildren Jason and Rylee Nelon of Graham; four stepchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Russell Jones.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association.
