Hazel Lenor Sherman

Hazel Lenor Sherman, 89, formerly of Decatur, died Friday, May 30, 2014, in Watauga.

Funeral is 10 a.m. Thursday, June 5, at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial at Pleasant Grove No. 1 Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Hazel was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Parkin, Ark., to James Gross and Coy (Love) New. She married Norton Sherman in 1941, and they were married for 21 years until his passing in 1963. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Saginaw.

Hazel is survived by daughters Carolyn Sue Hardee of Decatur and Tammy Lewis of North Richland Hills; son Ricky Sherman and wife, Janie, of Haltom City; grandchildren Ronnie Sherman, Richard Sherman, Cheri Turner, Wed Hardee, Tim Hardee, Cheryl Haynes, Misty Shwartz and Jonathan Lewis; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother Bobby New; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son Norton Sherman Jr.; daughter Judy Maley; grandchildren David Sherman and Rhonda Burden; and great-grandchild Riley Hardee.
