Everett Lee Hicks, 80, of Bridgeport died Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, in Decatur.
Funeral was Jan. 27 at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport with Dr. David Burrows officiating. Burial followed at East Bridgeport Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Steve Doty, Mike Scroggins, Larry Isom, David Garrison, Jay Hudson and Delayne Dillard. Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Thompson, Dewey Isom and Lance Whitney.
Everett was born Nov. 3, 1933, in Como to Eunice E. (Pappy) and Clara (Barrett) Hicks. He worked for Mitchell Energy for 35 years, starting on a wireline unit and later becoming a longtime supervisor. He retired from the company in 1991.
Everett Lee was one of those wonderful people who never met a stranger. He loved to barbecue for friends and neighbors and loved to garden and work in the yard.
He is survived by daughter Rhonda McDonald and husband, Eddie; sisters Jean Hicks Ray, Margie Isom and Nell Admire; and granddaughter Tifani Hicks.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Hicks, and son Gary Hicks.
