Charles Larry Petty

Charles Larry Petty, 74, a self-employed communications specialist, died Monday, May 12, 2014, in Boyd.

Graveside service was Thursday, May 15, at Boyd Cemetery. Rev. David McMinn officiated and Cody Petty, Logan Trundle, Benjamin Schmitz and Jeffrey Schmitz served as pallbearers.

Burial was under the direction of Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home of Boyd.

Larry was born April 21, 1940, to Samuel Benjamin and Claudine (Jordan) Petty in Mesquite. He married Rosemary Hanna June 30, 2010, in Boyd.

Larry served his country and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He installed communication radios for first responders, including Boyd Police Department and Wise County Sheriff’s Department and other law enforcement agencies. He was a Ham radio operator and loved to play music with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jean Burns; and his brother, R.J. Petty.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Petty of Boyd; daughter Cindy Schmitz and husband, Bill, of Bailey, Colo.; sons Charles Larry Petty, Jr. and wife, Ladonna, of Springdale, Ark., Ray Petty and wife, Jami, of Decatur; grandchildren, Maebry, Hudson, Hayden, Trey, Alesha, Ben and Jeff; two great-grandchildren; stepchildren Christi Horak and husband, Steve, Randy McBrayer and wife, Sherry, Juli Kirk and husband, Kenny; seven step-grandchildren; 15 step great-grandchildren; sisters Anne Wright, Carla Bezner and Sandra Newman; brothers Sam and Jerry Petty; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
