Byrl Dee “Butch” Proctor, 82, a retired military sergeant, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, in Decatur.
Funeral is 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd with Bro. Steve Weeks officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Mike Morse, Jim Morse, Darin Morse, Jared Presler, Kenny Grant and Kevin Hittle.
Butch was born Aug. 21, 1931, to B.H. and Carrie (Nesse) Proctor in Fristoe, Mo. He married the love of his life, Abbie Evelyn Butler, June 4, 1957, in Wichita Falls.
Butch was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and fought for our country in Korea and Vietnam. While in the service, Butch and Evelyn lived many places around the world, and after his retirement, they settled and made their home in Boyd. They loved to travel and camped out along the way in the many states they visited. Butch never met a stranger and had a friendly smile and handshake for all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn; stepson Jerry Don Morse; step-grandson Jason Bliss; and step great-grandson Nathan Wallace.
Survivors include his stepchildren, Elvin Morse and wife, Sharon, of Washington, Gordon Morse and wife, Myrna, of Florida, Carolyn Bliss and husband, Jerry, of Arizona; nine step-grandchildren; 21 step-great-grandchildren; brother Bill Proctor and wife, Shirley, of Nevada; special friends Murtie Bounds, Kenny Grant and Ruby Estes; and other family members and friends.
