Billy Alvin Askey, 82, a retired storekeeper for T.U. Electric, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, in his hometown of Decatur.
Funeral is 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the First Baptist Church of Decatur with the Rev. Ken May officiating. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Paul Askey, Blake Tucker, Jeff Bakker, Jason Holmes, Darrel Romine and Jim Bob Little. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Cunnius, Ross Mueller, Glenn Rhine, Tommy Cunnius, Dan Rhine, W.M. Lewis and the Adult 6 Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church of Decatur.
Bill was born Oct. 12, 1931, to William Alvin and Mildred (Davenport) Askey in Decatur. He married Joyce Elaine Phillips April 1, 1960, in Decatur. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Decatur for more than 60 years.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce Askey of Decatur; daughter Phyllis Jordan and husband, Gary, of Rainbow; son Phillip Askey and wife, Rebecca, of Sanger; grandchildren Krista Askey of Dallas, Austin Jordan of San Antonio and Kayla Askey of Sanger; brother Bob Askey and wife, Nelda, of Dalhart; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jonnie Greer.
