Anna Pewitt Dukes

Anna Pewitt Dukes, 95, of Bridgeport, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, in Bridgeport.

Service was Feb. 16 at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport with Pat Mannon and Joe Wayne Richardson officiating. Burial was at Wilson Prairie Cemetery in Bridgeport.

Pallbearers were Ray Cook, Jimmy Pewitt, Leon Dethloff, Britt Doty, Kevin Pewitt and Brayden Garcia. Honorary pallbearers were Ronnie Pewitt, Billy Greenwood, Justin Dagley, Colter Doty, Kendall Dethloff, Kelton Dethloff, Jacob Morris, Terry Garcia, Greg Smith, Robert Bryan, Joe Bruce and James Johnson.

Anna was born July 28, 1918, in Lakewood, Colo., to Edward and Hazel Marie (Young) Furter. She was a wonderful cook and an avid gardener who loved spending time with family. She was a member of the Carpenter Street Church of Christ.

Anna leaves behind her children: Jim Pewitt and wife, Shirley, Melvin Pewitt and wife, Lanell, and Sylvia Ann Richardson and husband Joe, and daughter-in-law Pat Pewitt; stepchildren Johnny Dave Dukes and wife, Nelda, Bobby Dukes, Clyde Dukes Jr. and wife, Jane, Diana Chatham and husband, Tom, Cindy Starnes and husband, Jim, and Adeline Hammer and husband, Jack; 23 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Claude A. Pewitt and Clyde Dukes; sons Claude E. Pewitt and Marvin Lee Pewitt; and stepson Jimmy Dukes.

Donations in Anna’s name may be made through Carpenter Street Church of Christ for missionary work in Nigeria and India, P.O. Box 98, Paradise, TX 76073.
