Attention current high school students and parents: Are you heading to college or a trade school? Not sure when you should take the SAT/ACT? How can you get your tuition paid for with minimal out-of-pocket expenses?

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension office is hosting Scholarships 101 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at Weatherford College Wise County. Topics to be covered include Federal Student Aid, scholarships, SAT/ACT testing, plus how to make your application rise to the top of the pile.

There will be refreshments, door prizes and a question-and-answer session. The program is free. To register, call the Extension office, 940-627-3341.

The Texas 4-H and FFA organizations now require that breeding heifers be validated to attend the major stock shows (Fort Worth, San Antonio, San Angelo, Austin and Houston). This is the first year for heifer validation, which includes ag teachers and county agents uploading registration papers for all heifers showing and possible substitutions as the need arises.

Registration papers should be turned in to FFA advisers or the Extension office by Friday, Nov. 7. This will give your adviser or agent the opportunity to upload your registration papers to the online validation system.

The physical validation for breeding heifers will be 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the Wise County Fairgrounds. Heifers must be present with registration papers. It’s imperative that all branding and tattoos on the heifer match the registration paperwork on the day of validation.

Please call the Extension office with questions regarding the new heifer validation process, 940-627-3341.

4-H members can make appointments the week of Nov. 3-7 to complete major show entries.

The fall has been busy and shows no signs of slowing down. Extension staff will be regularly traveling, so to ensure your entry is received in time to process it online, please submit it by Friday, Nov. 7.

Call the Extension office at 940-627-3341 to set up an appointment with Todd or myself.
