One hobby that continues to grow in interest is the raising of backyard chickens.

This stems from families having the desire to grow their own food and from youth bringing home chicks from their classroom’s Egg to Chick project. Either way, we’re excited to be in the middle of a chicken frenzy around here!

Join us for the 4th Annual Wise Chicks Coop Tour Saturday, May 3. The day will start at 10 a.m. with a presentation, “Raising Chickens 101,” by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension staff at the Women’s Building on the Wise County Fairgrounds in Decatur. Maps will be provided at the end of the educational session, and participants are encouraged to continue on with a self-guided coop tour throughout the county.

All locations will be marked with yellow coop tour signs. The best part is that each coop and the chicks that reside there are different. This event is fun for the whole family, especially since raising chickens is not a project limited by age.

If you have questions, call tour organizer Susan Simich at 940-225-4740 or visit wisechickcooptour.com.
